7/3/10

6/4-6/5- San Diego...getting there

We were supposed to get up and leave by 6:30am but we were packing the van and cleaning until 2:00am so actual departure time was 9:30. When we woke up the kids they were upset that we didn't leave earlier. We are ALL excited for this trip for many reasons;

1. We have never been to California!!!
2. We get to live with extended family for a week!!!
3. We will go to the beach, Sea World, and San Diego Zoo!!!!

I am always amazed at how much STUFF we need for one week! It's a good thing we have this big van because we used every inch of it! :)

Our kids travel well but we didn't know how little Zoey would do (she was an angel!)

Zack loves to read, I can't believe he doesn't get carsick

Savannah was such a great helper with Zoey

So was Sydney!

Summer just looked cute

Zoey slept most of the time

Tom drove the WHOLE time. I get too tired driving...

We got to St. George at 1:30 and went to Zion. We LOVE LOVE Zion! But nobody told us it was 200 degrees that day!!! OH! MY! GOSH! I am not made for the heat. I turn into the devil when I'm hot. Apparently I passed this character trait onto my children. And that equals not the best time we've ever had in Zion...but I still love it...and I will NEVER EVER go back between June-September.

the hot hot bus

we shall call this the hot, sweaty, heat stroke, river walk

we were going to do more than one hike but since this almost killed us...

Finally, WATER!

everyone get wet because the heat will burn it off in about 3 seconds!

so we all got wet

Zack had enough

but the girls couldn't get enough

poor baby Zoey was so red in the face, I kept pouring water on her head and clothes. Tom had the idea to get a blanket all wet and cover her stroller, to act as an air conditioner, and it worked!

the sliding rock- now the kids are wet and dirty

but Zion you are SO BEAUTIFUL

After Zion we were all exhausted from the heat. We ate at IHOP and I have never had such a quiet dinner. No one said anything, we just sat there, at the table, with tired, red faces. I wish I hadn't been so tired to take a picture of it. We got to stay with Becky & James in a cool house that James' parents just bought. This lake in the back had swans, they were mean swans. Luckily none of the kids got bitten, but not from lack of trying...

Saturday we drove the rest of the way to San Diego- gotta love potty breaks when there are no exits for miles...poor Vanna went down in a ditch and got thorns all over! Sydney got out to help her.

We arrived in San Diego around 5:00. The kids wanted to go straight to the beach! I loved seeing their first reaction! It was cold but they didn't care!

these are the stairs to get to the beach, not so bad going down...but coming up carrying a baby...

Savannah took pictures of our cool house, beautiful stained glass

Sally, you are beautiful in these pictures. I'm excited to read more about the week on the beach.
